On-screen Assessments in the New Post-16 Qualifications
The new post-16 qualifications each feature on-screen assessment that assesses the range of knowledge and understanding:
- of the construction and built environment sector that learners will need to succeed when working in the sector; and
- required to become fully competent in a particular trade or occupation, as set out in the national standards for that trade.
Learners will need to have completed three on-screen assessments by the time they finish their apprenticeship. The timing of the assessments is designed to be flexible to meet the needs of each learner, as learners can take a number of different routes through the qualifications.
All learners will be required to take the F1 assessment, which assesses learners’ understanding of the construction and built environment sector and the wider skills they will need to succeed when working within it.
The C2 and C3 assessments will be taken by learners following a Construction pathway and they will assess the knowledge and understanding required to work in a chosen construction trade.
The B2 and B3 assessments will be taken by learners following a Building Services Engineering pathway and they will assess the knowledge and understanding required to work in a chosen building services engineering trade.
The on-screen assessments will be available at first for those trades with the highest learner numbers. Learners studying a lower-uptake trade may take shorter on-screen assessments during their Progression or Apprenticeship qualifications and demonstrate their knowledge and understanding in a short presentation or an extension to the discussion element of the qualifications.
Please note that some industries require workers to undertake specific assessments before they can be recognised by industry bodies. Where this is the case, these assessments will be included in the Apprenticeship framework.
