Results 2020
Results overview
One of our key activities as the independent regulator of qualifications in Wales is to oversee the award of GCSE, AS and A level qualifications and the Welsh Baccalaureate. In this section, you will be able to read overview reports of the results for summer 2020 as soon as they are published.
No exams were held this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, so the grades have been awarded according to a process approved by us.
We have built a section of our website to explain in detail how the grades were awarded this year.

Results data
As this summer’s results are published, learners and parents will be looking for advice and making decisions on the next steps.
We’ve produced a graphic showing the options available to learners, from post-16 education through apprenticeships and university. We’ve also produced a comprehensive Information Pack for this summer’s results. Below you’ll find information on how to lodge an appeal through your school or college if you’re unhappy with your grade, along with links to help you chart your future course through education and employment.
Not happy with your results?
Centres can appeal to WJEC on behalf of the learner, which is the same process as used in previous years. Learners can ask their centre to check whether they made an error when they submitted their Centre Assessment Grades. In certain circumstances, private candidates will be able to appeal directly to WJEC. Here’s more information on how to submit an appeal via your centre.
Key dates
The key dates for summer 2020 are:
13 August – AS and A level results published
20 August – GCSE results published
17 September – deadline for application for an initial review in the appeals process
What next after your GCSEs?
Do you wish to carry on in education? If your school has a sixth form and you want to remain in school, speak to your teachers about the courses and subjects that are offered. Alternatively, you may wish to move on to college or a sixth form centre.
Careers Wales has advice on where to study. If you are aged between 16-18 you may be eligible for funding.
A level results and university entry
Hopefully you have achieved the grades you need for your course, but don’t panic if you haven’t! UCAS have information on the next steps available to you.
Apprenticeship
You may decide to apply for an apprenticeship. The Careers Wales website has information on apprenticeships and how to apply. Welsh Government also offers advice.
Employment
Careers Wales offers a host of support and advice in searching for jobs, from CV building, application letters and job vacancies.
